Q

What do you attribute your success to?

Jesus, God. My faith. Only. That's the only thing. My most notable professional achievement is continuing to share my faith and hope with my candidates, who are always a priority. I stay true to who I am and remain authentic, while also making sure to represent the company in the best way possible so that the candidate and hiring manager can have the ultimate experience.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Sometimes the best thing to do is to not speak. Even though you're doing a lot of talking in this career, sometimes the best thing to do, especially in a corporate meeting or when you're speaking to a candidate or hiring manager, is to sit back tight and listen. Really listen to the needs of the customer, really listen to the needs of the candidates. I might be saying this because I do struggle with that sometimes, like with active listening. I have to do tasks to make sure I'm active listening. Sometimes listening is more important than what you think you have to say.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Know your worth, know the value that you can bring to a company. And don't ever let anyone tell you that this isn't the field for you if you truly believe it in your heart. There have been assignments that I've been on that have been overly tech-driven, and I've had challenges with them. I've had people that were unkind to me and say, you'll never make it in this career, because I do struggle with multi-screens, toggling, learning new ATS systems. I know them all, but it took me a while. So just don't give up when you feel overwhelmed, and don't let anyone tell you that this isn't meant for you if you believe it.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I would say the biggest one that's not threatening our jobs is AI. I wouldn't say AI is going to take over our jobs, but it's also a blessing and a curse. With the AI generation, what we're doing is losing that human contact. AI can be a huge tool, but when used improperly or lazily, it seems as though we are losing that connection. When I'm searching for contract jobs in recruiting, you're just not receiving that personal call saying, hey, this is so-and-so, I want to talk to you about an opportunity. For me, it's hard to trust a company when I haven't spoken to someone.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

That I'm authentic and I stay true to who I am, but also making sure to represent the company in the best way possible so that the candidate and hiring manager can have the ultimate experience. If I can't do anything today, not one thing, I can be kind. I have a sign up in my house that says, in a world where you can be anything, be kind. You get up, you have breath in your lungs, and then you just gotta figure out your purpose for the day. Why did you get chosen to wake up? It wasn't to be a negative little Nancy and go around and be negative to people and not be kind.
