Her Story
About Sarah
My journey into leadership and marketing has been unconventional and deeply rewarding. I went back to college at 28-29 and earned my bachelor's in communications and PR with a minor in human communications from Cal State University Fullerton. I even studied abroad in Florence, Italy on a scholarship at age 30, which was life-changing. I started as director of events for 50-50 Women on Boards, a nonprofit that runs statistics and data on why women should serve on boards and how it benefits companies. During the pandemic, I joined Curative when they were just 6 people and watched them explode to thousands nationwide. I started as the right hand to all C-suite executives and was immediately promoted to marketing operations manager, operating a different department with a team under me. After about 4 years, I moved to Typhone where I ran their entire events department, planning and executing events nationwide. Now at Crowd (CRWD), I'm Chief of Staff, overseeing all departments, creating systems and processes, and running the business alongside the CEO. My main expertise is taking on leadership roles and making sure there is structure and order, identifying what's lacking and filling it immediately to make significant impact. I help businesses grow, I'm the go-to person for every staff member, and I'm a problem solver. What drives me is treating employees with utmost respect and kindness, making sure they're not burned out, have everything they need to be successful, and have no blockers. I believe when you treat your employees well and promote a positive company culture, they work even harder and become loyal and committed. I'm completely against micromanaging. Four years ago, I also became a mom overnight when I adopted my little cousin Eli after his father, my uncle, passed away. He was young then and is now thriving in private school. Balancing career, single motherhood, and leadership has been quite a journey, but it's all part of who I am.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
As a leader, it does not matter how well someone is working in your company. If one person causes any type of chaos or hostile environment to all 50 other employees, it does not matter how good they are, they can't be there. You just need to be a good human being, and you will have the best employees ever. I truly believe that promoting a good company culture is the best thing you can do for any business. I actually learned this from a really great mentor, GaryVee, who I watch online all the time, and it resonated with me so much. I don't believe one person should cause such a hostile environment in any work environment. I don't care how well you do for my company, I don't care how great you are, I don't care how many numbers you bring in. If you are not a good human being, you do not belong in a work environment. Everyone just needs to be a good human being. Leaders like myself need to recognize that more, from mental health to making sure that our culture and environment is a positive one. Watch how your employees work for you. Watch how hard they work, and they're going to work extra hard because they value you that much, because you do so good by them. Make sure that your culture and your environment is so positive, because I guarantee you that will make such a difference in your business. You will succeed that way. This is what makes my employees love working for Crowd. I've always heard from them, they've always said such positive things, like, you know, Sarah, I've worked with so many companies, but I've never worked with a leader like you. And that is, like, it's a reward in itself. That's how I lead, that's how I live.
