Her Story

About Sarah

Sarah Piotrowski currently serves as the Talent Acquisition and Engagement Leader at Veritas Steel LLC in Wausau, Wisconsin, a role she has held since June 2023. In this position, she oversees a broad range of human resources functions, including full-cycle recruiting, employee engagement initiatives, new hire tracking, and staff training programs. With approximately a decade of experience in the human resources field, Sarah has built her career around helping organizations attract, onboard, and retain talent while fostering a positive and engaged workplace culture.

Sarah's path into HR began with a temporary position in a clinic system's HR call center, which sparked her interest in the field and led her to pursue full-time recruiting work for a company overseeing gas stations, Subway locations, and tire centers. She went on to take a higher-level recruiting role within a community health center system, further sharpening her expertise in high-volume hiring, applicant tracking systems, and candidate sourcing before transitioning to her current role at Veritas Steel. Throughout her career, she has developed strong proficiency in platforms such as ADP and Paycom, along with broader skills in problem-solving, communication, and candidate evaluation.

Academically, Sarah holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and is currently completing her Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, with an expected graduation in December. She plans to pursue SHRM membership following the completion of her master's degree. Sarah credits much of her professional growth to the mentorship of colleagues Nora Boomer and Abbey Kuehl, as well as her own commitment to giving her full effort in every role. She often encourages young women entering the HR field to bring their best effort forward each day, noting that while the work can be demanding at times, pushing through those challenges ultimately leads to meaningful and rewarding outcomes.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sarah

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to always doing my best and giving 100% to every job I take on. I've also been fortunate to have mentors like Nora Boomer and Abbey Kuehl, whose guidance has played an important role in helping me grow throughout my career.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is learning to recognize when you've reached your bandwidth, rather than always saying yes to everything. I've learned that constantly saying yes without acknowledging your limits can actually be more detrimental than knowing when to step back.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to always put your best foot forward and give it 110%. There will be moments that feel stressful, but if you push through, reaching your end goal is absolutely worth it.
