Dr. D. Sarah Stamps is a distinguished geophysicist and tenured Associate Professor at Virginia Tech, where she leads cutting-edge research on Earth’s surface motions using high-precision GNSS/GPS data and computational modeling. Her work focuses on understanding the dynamic processes behind plate tectonics, seismic and volcanic hazards, and vertical land motion—all crucial to assessing risks in vulnerable regions. In addition to her scientific pursuits, Dr. Stamps is passionate about modernizing geoscience through technological innovation and expanding technical capacity in developing countries, particularly across Africa.

A dedicated educator and global collaborator, Dr. Stamps has earned numerous accolades, including the NSF CAREER Award, and has served as a Distinguished Lecturer for the Computational Infrastructure for Geodynamics. Have multiple GNSS data collection projects going at once since it takes a minimum of 2.5 years to obtain usable data.
