Her Story

About Sarah

I've been in my field since 2018, starting right after I graduated from Niagara University where I was part of the first graduating class in their food marketing program. That education naturally led me to pursue a position in the food industry, which was a really exciting opportunity for me to experience. Right out of college, I got a job with Acosta Sales and Marketing, a brokerage in Buffalo, New York, where I worked with brands and managed their business with Wegmans directly, the retailer. That experience essentially led into my current job with UNFI, which I think is the largest distributor in the U.S. I work directly with Wegmans, still doing something very similar, just on the distributor side of the business, working directly with brands both small and large and supporting them in growing their business so they can be successful at Wegmans. A few years into that position, I was eventually promoted into a senior account manager role, where I am now leading the team that works directly with Wegmans. I spend a lot of time in the food industry and it's really exciting. I love being able to work with these smaller brands and helping to guide and grow them so that they're able to be successful, whether it's a small business or a large company. It really is an exciting role to be able to help lead a team that's very successful and also support a retailer that everybody really likes. I mean, people love shopping at Wegmans, so it's something that we're very prideful of, especially working with organic foods, so we feel like we're making a positive impact in the world.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say that the biggest thing I'm proud of is really the current position that I'm in right now, leading a great team of people and hopefully being a good leader to inspire and grow my team, as well as be a great partner to such a well-established, excited, and well-respected retailer like Wegmans. My parents have always inspired me to be who I want to be and do things that I want to do. They've never suggested that I do whatever everybody else is doing. They've inspired me to really go after my dreams and be as successful as I can be, because it's all in my control.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would share that, you know, find something that you're interested in and just go after it, and go after it with a lot of passion and excitement. There's always a reason to celebrate and be excited, so find something that you're excited about and passionate about and, you know, go enjoy your life doing those things. Life's too short to really waste it doing something that you're not interested in doing, so I find that very important.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I would say someone being passionate and just being an overall good person, that's probably some of the most valuable things to me. If you want to be successful in the world, I feel like you need to be good to the people around you to make progress.
