Her Story
About Sarah
I come in every day and help our bookkeeper get things in our system, deal with contracts for our construction jobs, and do payroll. But the biggest thing I try to do is empower my managers to get their jobs done and guide them in handling an angry customer or employee. My biggest part of my job is getting our numbers, forecasting, planning ahead, and making goals - revenue goals, membership goals, labor efficiency goals for our staff, so we can make the most profit. One of my biggest jobs here is to create a culture and deal with employees, teaching our employees how to treat our customers. I really like helping people and being a solution for our customers. I like bringing comfort to people's homes and their businesses. One thing I really love about this job is that every day's a different day - there's always different problems, new problems, so it's not boring at all. You're always learning stuff and staying up with the times. For example, since I started here, we've been through 3 different types of refrigerant, and we just are on the new refrigerant, R54B, so we all had to pivot and learn how to work with that type of refrigerant and get the proper tools needed.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sarah
01What do you attribute your success to?
I'm a go-getter. There's a lot of things around here you just have to dig in and figure it out. A lot of my managers and a lot of people that work here have that same go-getter mentality - we're just very motivated, self-motivated. My experience here is so valuable, just all the things I've learned. It's more valuable than any education I could have ever received. I've done all the jobs, so I could go work anywhere. That hands-on experience and willingness to learn and figure things out has been key to my success.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
It's hard to find people, man. There's not a lot of people in the trades. I was just looking online right now for some installers - it's hard to find good people. That is probably our biggest challenge. We need more blue-collar workers. Right now, I'm on a mission to find some more employees. I have a lot of very great staff here, some amazing employees, and we need more of them. We're going to establish an apprenticeship program to try to get some more people in the door.
