Her Story
About Saronda
I've been in my field for at least 15 plus years. Originally from Texas, I came to Houston in the early 90s to attend college and began my career as a dealer at a credit union, working my way up to branch manager at multiple locations. I've worked across Texas cities and other states as a project manager in customer service, adapting like a salamander to different people and situations. My passion extends beyond work as I advocate voluntarily for the homeless and abused women, drawing from my own experiences with homelessness and abuse to counsel and support others.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Saronda
01What do you attribute your success to?
My dad. Everything that I am, and who I am, and what I know, I have to give it to my dad. My dad taught me everything. My dad gave me the basics in advance manner to survive. And I use it today in my preferred professional career and my personal career. I owe everything to that man. Period.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Put yourself first. You're a young woman first before you're anything else. Place yourself first. Have integrity about yourself, respect about yourself. Because if you don't respect yourself and you don't know your own worth, the world is a cruel rod. Brace yourself first. Don't allow anyone to tell you who you are and who you are not. Put yourself first, respect yourself first, and please, the way that you want to be treated by the world or anyone, reflect that. Show the world that you're different. Because you have to be different. You can't be like everyone else.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
There's always challenges. People are angry. The economy is just messed up. People are losing their jobs. People are really carrying heavy burdens. They need to be able to stick. I have a very tough skin and like an oak tree. I don't move very easily. I can handle controversy and difficulty very well. I've had hardships in my life and God has built me to be the person that I am right now.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honestly, loyalty and honor.
