What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to unwavering hope and consistency. There have been many moments where I was unsure what to do or felt stuck, however I knew that no matter the setback I had to keep showing up for myself and my village. Remaining confident in my skills and being authentic in every interaction allowed me to walk away from every "no" or "maybe" with the hope that I would find where I belong and surely enough, I found my team!
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Some of the best career advice I have ever received is to always remember my why. Working in education can be overwhelming and a lot of people walk away because it may not feel rewarding. It's moments like those where I begin to remember why I chose this path. Once I am realigned with that, I feel grounded.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Your voice is valuable and deserves to be heard. Playing small is disservice to yourself, your team and your community. So ask questions, be involved and say the thing!
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges we're facing right now is maintaining better work-life balance. The Women's Advancement Initiative is in the education and non-profit space and there are so many ways to engage our students. There are also plenty of initiatives and chances to collaborate with others and get involved in the community. We have to be mindful of how many things we can say "yes" to so we don't burn out as a team.
With that being said, having all of these opportunities has been amazing! This is not only a great way to be engaged with the community, it's a great way to network and meet other passionate professionals from other walks of life!
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I really value integrity and authenticity, I believe that showing up as your true self allows you to connect with others better and find the community truly meant for you!
