About Savalee

Savalee Tikle is an architect and urban design professional who recently graduated in May with a Master's of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard GSD. She is now working as an urban designer with a firm in Boston on master planning and urban design projects involving commercial planning, public infrastructures, and higher education campus master plans. Prior to this, she spent three and a half years with Perkins Eastman while also engaging in community-building and policy planning through other organizations. During her time at Harvard GSD, Savalee contributed to research and teaching, including a summer program, and received several fellowships including the Casey Mahindra grant, the Mexico City Initiative, the Genotsuke Obata Award, and the KPF Paul Cart Fellowship. Her work emphasizes understanding urban design through lenses of implementation, policy, and planning to create equitable and durable cities.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would just say that just like curiosity and persistence and a willingness to walk into spaces where you may think that you do not belong yet, but it's just like, you know, if you think you know something, just follow your gut and go for it. It's something that I have been... I've learned the hard way, but it's so important to just like, you know, try to have the courage to hold a conversation in a room where you think you might be the youngest.
