About Schuyler
My day-to-day work involves a mix of sales and relationship building. I'm always out and about at boat shows, fishing tournaments, and marinas, talking to people. When someone calls me about a client who just bought a boat, I reach out and talk to them - not just about the boat, but about them as a person too. I write up policies, negotiate with underwriters, and present options to clients, figuring out their pain points and what they like or don't like. Once everything looks good, I bind the quote, handle the financing part, and usually write the client a note and mail it out to them. Then their friends call me, so there's a lot of relationship-driven work. The fun days are going out prospecting and just talking to people - it's not really salesy like 'do insurance with me.' It's more like 'hey, what do you do? How'd you get into this?' I let people talk and they love it. I get to learn more about them and how they're successful. That's the best question to ask somebody - how'd you get to where you are? My work includes retention, canvassing the marketplace, researching where I could submit certain kinds of boats, and just getting in front of people. Having a good relationship with underwriters is crucial because everything's relationship-driven.
