Her Story

About Sedona

Sedona Stewart serves as Senior Accounting Manager at Squint, a tech AI startup. In this role, she manages day-to-day accounting operations, builds processes, and develops accounting infrastructure while collaborating with other teams to improve efficiencies. She has six years of experience in accounting and finance within the tech startup space. Prior to joining Squint six months ago, she spent nearly four years in a similar role at another tech startup and held an earlier position in the industry. Sedona began her career in an operations role in San Francisco after college, where she worked closely with HR, people operations, finance, and accounting teams, which sparked her interest in accounting. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration from Chico State, though she lacks a formal accounting degree or CPA. Sedona attributes her career progression to her willingness to learn and grow by taking on any available opportunities, including less glamorous tasks, maintaining grit, and remaining hands-on even in management positions without ego. She advises young women entering the field to dive in, ask questions without fear of being wrong, and continue learning to advance.

Ten minutes with Sedona

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think just being willing to learn and grow and take things on, even if it's maybe considered more of the grunt work. Kind of that grit to do that work and learn and grow, and especially in the tech startup space you have to be willing to still do some of the hands-on IC work. Being willing and able to do that and not having an ego and being above things like that has really helped me.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Maybe just don't be afraid to dive in and ask questions. It's okay to be wrong or not know, but just continue to ask questions and learn and grow, because that's how you keep learning and how you move up.
