About Selina
Selina Ye is a New York City district literacy coach and education leader with nearly 22 years of experience supporting educators and students. She works district-wide to strengthen literacy instruction, with a particular focus on special education and multilingual learners.
Known for bringing innovation into literacy education, Selina has developed expertise in integrating artificial intelligence and robotics into teaching and learning. She created the Robotics Into Literacy program, which began in a single self-contained special education classroom and has since expanded school-wide and across the district. Her innovative work has also been featured by Chalkbeat.
Selina is passionate about empowering educators to embrace new possibilities in education and creating inclusive, engaging, and future-ready learning experiences for all students.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to continuous learning, strong instructional expertise, collaboration, and a willingness to embrace innovation. I stay curious and open to new research, practices, and emerging technologies such as AI, while drawing on my years of experience in literacy, language development, special education, and multilingual education. Most importantly, I believe in building strong relationships with educators and school leaders and creating equitable learning opportunities for every student.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to embrace change. Change can feel uncomfortable and even scary, but it often leads to unexpected opportunities and growth. I’ve learned that being willing to step outside my comfort zone, try something new, and keep learning has led to some of the most rewarding experiences in my career.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important value to me is equity in education. After teaching and working in different classroom settings, from bilingual education classrooms to ENL to ICT classrooms classroom settings, I believe every student deserves access to high-quality instruction and opportunities to succeed, especially in diverse student populations.
