About Shakeitha
Shakeitha Gammons has dedicated 27 years to her career as a hairdresser, image consultant, and interior decorator. Inspired by her mother who excelled in the craft, Gammons entered the beauty industry and later expanded into interior decorating and image consulting, driven by her desire to serve others and make them feel good. She has supported clients through challenging times, including cancer patients and women navigating divorce or abusive situations, drawing from her own experiences to provide empathy and a listening ear. Gammons attributes her professional success to the foundational lessons from her mother, additional training from barbers in the field, and the opportunities to meet and network with people from diverse backgrounds. She advises those entering the beauty industry to remain open to learning, master their strengths, stay authentic, and recognize that loving the work leads to fulfillment and success. In both her professional and personal life, Gammons prioritizes authenticity, showing up as her best self, accepting herself with grace, and ensuring she fills her own cup before extending herself to others.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Shakeitha
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from my mom who was really good at the craft and learning from her, as well as other people in the field like barbers. Serving people and meeting new people from different walks of life has also been key, allowing me to network and learn from others.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Anybody starting in the beauty industry should know you're not going to know everything the first day. Be willing to learn and be taught. Hone in on what you're really good at and master it. Be your authentic self, grow, and learn new things. When you love what you do and make people feel good, that's where the money is.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Authenticity is at the very top. Showing up as my best self at all times, accepting who we are, honoring and giving ourselves grace. Loving yourself and not overextending myself beyond the boundaries I've set so I don't dishonor myself. I'm a firm believer in filling my own cup first before giving to others.
