Her Story
About Shakita
Shakita Spalding brings over 13 years of experience in talent acquisition, having transitioned from retail management because she recognized her strength in placing the right individuals in suitable positions. In addition to her human resources work, she has operated a home-based baking business as an entrepreneur for approximately 5 years, a venture sparked by customer interest in her products and influenced by her father's and grandmother's love of cooking. Shakita attributes her professional success to being a constant learner who dedicates personal time to research, hones her craft in both talent acquisition and baking, and actively seeks feedback from others. Looking ahead, she aims to shift her focus more fully toward entrepreneurship by expanding her baking business, potentially through a food truck or partnerships with retail brands and local restaurants. She remains committed to helping others find suitable opportunities, even as she prioritizes her entrepreneurial path.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Shakita
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being a constant learner and spending personal time honing my craft. Whether on the talent acquisition side or the entrepreneur side, I do my own research, learn as much as possible, and get feedback from others. I am always constantly wanting to know more, whether about talent acquisition or baking, and I never stop researching and learning.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would definitely say do your research and learn as much as possible before entering into entrepreneurship. I did some research but not a complete deep dive, so I started learning as I went along and sometimes made mistakes that could have been avoided with more prior information.
