About Shalandria
Shalandria McGlownAllen serves as Human Resources Manager at Meijer, overseeing the Detroit location in the Grand River area of Detroit, Michigan. In this role, she ensures store compliance, supports team members as her primary customers, and mediates between leadership and staff to align with company standards. With more than 19 years in the field, she transitioned from store leadership operations, where she supervised non-food related areas, to specialize in leadership, team development, and community engagement. Shalandria is currently a student at Purdue Global and completed the EDA Entrepreneur Boot Camp through Comerica Bank. She is a member of Businesswomen of Detroit and was recently nominated to Delta Mu Delta, an international honor society in business. Additionally, she owns Hot Commodity Eyewear, a small business focused on giving away free eyewear to children in need through partnerships with local optical businesses. Her volunteer efforts include work with Gleaners Food Bank and back-to-school initiatives with the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I will tell her to stay consistent and true to herself when it comes to her aspirations. Sometimes we get off track, and the tunnel vision becomes about family, about things that are not part of the correct noise that you want for yourself. So, to always stay true to your dreams, and definitely stay consistent on your work ethic.
