Since 2018, ShaLee has independently published her work while continuing to expand her literary career. She is the author of Hidden Knowledge (Genesis IX Saga Book 1), the first installment of her science fiction series, and has had both poetry and short stories published in The Inferno, Emporia State University's literary magazine. In addition to her writing career, ShaLee has devoted many years to providing compassionate care for elderly individuals, offering companionship and personalized support that enhances their quality of life. Her responsibilities have included assisting with daily household tasks, preparing living spaces, accompanying clients to meals and appointments, managing bills and financial spreadsheets, and providing emotional encouragement. Through meaningful conversations and attentive listening, she has gained a deep appreciation for the life experiences of those she serves, often drawing inspiration from their stories and unique perspectives to develop authentic characters and compelling narratives in her writing. She is also exploring opportunities to transition from self-publishing to traditional publishing while embracing emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to strengthen the editing and publishing process.

Her expertise includes creative writing, editing, storytelling, Microsoft Office applications, and written communication, complemented by exceptional interpersonal skills developed through years of caregiving. Guided by integrity, empathy, and a commitment to lifelong learning, she continues to inspire others through both her literary work and her dedication to serving people with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with ShaLee

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the values my parents instilled in me from an early age. They taught me the importance of doing a job right the first time, taking pride in my work, and always giving my best effort. That principle has guided me throughout my life and career, shaping my strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering quality results.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is, “Do a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.” That advice has stayed with me throughout my career and has reinforced the importance of pursuing work that is meaningful, fulfilling, and aligned with my passions. When you genuinely enjoy what you do, dedication, perseverance, and success come much more naturally.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is navigating situations where family members may not always provide the level of care or support that clients deserve. As a caregiver, I develop strong relationships with those I serve and feel a deep sense of responsibility for their well-being. It can be difficult to step back when I believe a client’s needs are not being fully met, as I am naturally protective and committed to advocating for their best interests while maintaining professionalism and compassion.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My Christian faith is the foundation of both my personal and professional values. I believe in treating every person with kindness, compassion, and respect. If I see someone who is struggling, I believe in offering encouragement, a listening ear, or even a simple smile, because small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference. I strive to serve others with empathy and to positively impact the lives of those I encounter each day.
