Her Interview

Ten minutes with Shalon

01What do you attribute your success to?

Honestly, I attribute my success to a combination of intentional growth and consistency. I’ve always been very deliberate about putting myself in positions where I could learn, stretch, and take on more responsibility. I didn’t just focus on doing my job welI, I focused on understanding the business as a whole.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was to be intentional about my growth, not just my job. Learn the business, build strong relationships, and don’t wait for permission to lead, step into it early and confidently.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I think I would say to just operate at a level that you want to be at, not necessarily one that you're in. I think when you consistently communicate and deliver like a leader before you have the title, I think the opportunities will follow.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Right now, one of the biggest challenges and opportunities in HR is talent retention and engagement. People are reevaluating what they want from work, and organizations have to be more intentional about culture, leadership, and growth opportunities.

The opportunity is for HR to lead that shift, creating environments where people feel valued, developed, and motivated to stay, which ultimately drives stronger business performance.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, accountability, and growth are core to both my work and personal life. I believe in doing what I say I’m going to do, showing up consistently, and always looking for ways to evolve. I also value respect and how you treat people because no matter how successful you are, how you lead and how you show up for others is what truly defines you.
