Shamila Awan serves as a business execution consultant and business analyst in the IT industry, based in Waukee, Iowa. She earned a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Faisalabad in Pakistan before moving to the United States in 2010. After raising her children and working part-time for various companies, Awan pursued her full career starting in 2015. She has been a business analyst for many years and specializes in digital transformation, helping companies grow through optimization and the adoption of IT solutions tailored to their needs. Awan holds a CSM credential and was previously a member of PMP, though she does not hold PMP certification. She attributes her professional success to hard work and consistency, particularly in adopting a new culture after immigrating. Awan values work-family life balance, honesty, and being true to her work while following her dreams. She advises pursuing one's passion with consistency and encourages young women entering the field to never let anyone define their success, emphasizing dedication and self-knowledge.

01What do you attribute your success to?
Hard work and consistency. Hard work takes you where you want to be if you're consistent and hardworking. Coming from another country, adopting the culture, being consistent and hardworking has been key.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Pursue your passion and be consistent.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never let anyone define success. You can achieve whatever you want in life, but you have to be dedicated, and never let anyone say that you can do this or that and you cannot do this and that, because you are the one who knows yourself.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Technology is evolving every day with AI bringing big transformations. Challenges include keeping up by upgrading skills daily. Opportunities exist in learning new skills like AI prompting, as there will be jobs for those who evolve with change.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Work and family life balance is important; you should not compromise your family life over your work. Also honesty, being true to your work, and following your dreams.
