Her Story

About Shana

I am the CEO and founder of Grace Media Digital, which I launched less than a year ago. My typical day involves having meetings with my PR team and strategic advisory team, setting up guests for our media assets that we produce, including our podcast called the Exit Interview, where we interview successful professionals who have nonlinear career paths. I also spend time talking to different strategic partners to develop our products and expand our suite offerings. Before starting my own firm, I spent over a decade in financial services, specifically in asset management, where my most recent role was head of marketing for a $100 billion asset manager. One of my proudest achievements was leading communications for a $22 billion acquisition. Prior to finance, I worked in the law field for 4 years. I entered the finance space as an assistant and made my way up to ultimately becoming head of an entire department through hard work, grit, and determination.

Ten minutes with Shana

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute my success to the willingness to figure it out. A lot of doors were closed for me, and I was often underestimated. So I just made my own doors. My education was a combination of hard work, grit, and determination, and I entered the finance space as an assistant and made my way up to ultimately becoming head of an entire department.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is to advocate for yourself.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would give two pieces of advice to young women entering my industry. First, have initiative. And second, always advocate for yourself by speaking up.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think that the landscape is changing drastically because of AI. Now everyone can be as equally impactful without needing multiple degrees and years of brain damage working in a spreadsheet to show value. In terms of challenges, I faced a lot of closed doors throughout my career and was often underestimated, especially in a male-dominated industry. But I just made my own doors.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are that whatever your work is should be aligned with your personal values. I believe in the importance of alignment between what you do professionally and what you believe in personally.
