Her Story

About Shandi

I've been in the counseling industry for about 8 years, and my journey has taken me from Alabama to Oregon. I currently work as an LPC and CADC2 at North Bend Medical Center, where I started on March 1st, 2026. Before joining North Bend Medical Center, I spent 2 years at Coos Health and Wellness, where I worked with both walk-in clients and maintained my own caseload. One of my most notable professional achievements has been obtaining my LPC, which was a real work in progress because I moved from Alabama to Oregon in the middle of all of this. Getting new credentials, getting credentials emailed and faxed - oh, my Jesus - it was quite the process. I specialize in trauma and crisis counseling, which I focused on during my master's degree. I'm really good with trauma and helping clients through traumatic episodes, and I'm also good with any kind of addiction. The biggest challenge I see in my field right now is that there are so many people that need help and want help, but there's just limited availability. In every area I've lived in, there's always been way more people that need it than way more people that can get it.

Ten minutes with Shandi

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to having a kind of difficult upbringing. I was always surrounded by strong women, and strong men, for that matter. So, we figured it out, you know? We had to make things work.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Just to stay strong, stay focused. Because the world's always going to be coming at you. You know, you have to be determined if you want to achieve anything.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

In the field, the biggest challenge is that there's so many people that need help and want help, but there's just limited availability, you know? In every area I've lived in, there's always been way more people that need it, then way more people that can get it.
