Her Interview
Ten minutes with Shanese
01What do you attribute your success to?
My pillars that have gone before me. God, number one. My mother, my maternal grandmother, my maternal aunt, godmothers. My daughter. She's my why. When I don't want to anymore when I'm tired, when I'm done, when I'm over it. She's my why. Because I get to be her shero.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't accept no for an answer. If you want it, go get it. Find someone that does what you do. Let them teach you how. And do it better. Don't shrink. Recalibrate rooms. You know, I am a minority woman, so recalibrate rooms when you walk in. It's okay to be the only one.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't get in it if you're just in it for the money. Get in because you have a heart. Get in it, and get grounded in it. It won't be easy, but it'll be worth it. But just make sure your motives are right. Don't get in it for money. Don't get in it for fame. Get in it because you're intentional and you're purposeful.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, consistency, space, transparency, ambition, being goal-oriented, and trying it before you say you can't. Drown out the noise and see what actually works for you.
