Her Interview

Ten minutes with Shanice

01What do you attribute your success to?

My ability to not give up and take challenges as they come, using them as stepping stones to turn lemons into lemonade. Consistency every day is key, focusing on progress rather than immediate perfection, so I don't get overwhelmed and give up on bigger tasks.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

If you do what you love and focus on one thing that you're good at, perfect that craft every single day with consistency. Not about perfection immediately but being consistent and giving it your all. You will feel like you've never worked a day in your life, own that skill, and opportunities will come to you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be themselves authentically and know their why every single day. There are challenges out of their control, but knowing their why keeps them going. Being themselves lets them stand out and contribute positively and effectively in their area of expertise.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Trying to find a balance between supporting students in various ways they want while staying in alignment with policies and procedures. Sometimes policies are slow, so the help you can give isn't as effective as wanted, but you must support and guide while following requirements on both ends.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In work, making a difference in students' lives every day, from helping with assignments or personal problems to molding them into well-rounded students and upcoming professionals. In personal life, family as my support system; recently supporting my dad after his stroke reminds me to live life as best as possible every day.
