About Shaniqua
Shaniqua Cousins is the owner and founder of Chico's Head & Groove Group, which she established unofficially in 2016, and she also works as an author and speaker. With over 20 years in the lifestyle, health, and wellness industry, she began her journey after serving eight and a half years as a Navy veteran, during which she completed three deployments. After transitioning to civilian life, she published her first book in 2006 titled Life Experiences, which led organically into speaking engagements and eventually health and life coaching. She earned her bachelor's degree in Healthcare Management from Illinois University and her MBA from Florida Institute of Technology, followed by a health and life coaching certification from the Health Coach Institute. Shaniqua attributes her success to maintaining alignment between her internal experiences and what she projects externally, spanning physical, mental, financial, and spiritual aspects. Her top values are faith, authenticity, and service, and she advises maintaining a clear vision while turning over projects every three years to foster continuous growth.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Shaniqua
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from alignment between my internal experiences and what I project externally. This alignment spans physically, mentally, financially, and spiritually. When my outer experience mirrors my inner vision and purpose, everything flows naturally from that core harmony.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Learn a job thoroughly, then move on when ready. My supervisor advised that when you can teach a job, it's time to move on to allow continuous growth for yourself and open paths for others. I apply this by turning over projects every three years to stay fresh and avoid stagnation.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Have a clear vision of where you want to go. Vision pulls you forward, sustains you, and keeps you on track. Business can be isolating, but if you stay consistent and intentional with your vision, you'll reach your goals. Without vision, you end up following someone else's path instead of your own.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is getting people to be proactive with their health and wellness rather than reactive after hitting a roadblock. It's easier to sustain a lifestyle of consistency and intentionality from the start than to do damage control later, but many wait until they've had enough before taking action.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My top values are faith, authenticity, and service. As a Christian, my walk and faith come first. I show up as my authentic self in everything I do, ensuring it aligns with who I am. I also value taking input from those I serve and putting action behind it.
