Her Interview
Ten minutes with Shaniqua
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my life experience. I've been through a lot. Also having a solid support system, my mom pouring into me, my partner, and my kids seeing their growth and success.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to be your authentic true self and make sure you seek and obtain a sponsor and a mentor. Understand the difference: a mentor gives guidance and advice, a sponsor puts you in rooms, speaks your name, and creates opportunities.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The only way you don't make it is if you don't try. Show up in the rooms where you feel like you're not supposed to be there and continue to show up.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge in insurance right now is retention due to the current economic climate where people face difficult decisions between keeping insurance or paying for essentials like lights. Opportunities include using AI to help associates do their jobs better, alleviate tasks, and provide relief rather than replacing workers, especially with high volume.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, integrity, transparency are my biggest things. Making sure the work is impactful and of high value, helping people especially those younger than me by providing support and being impactful in their lives.
