Her Interview
Ten minutes with Shannan
01What do you attribute your success to?
I was a single parent with three daughters for a big chunk of time. Necessity played a part, but I was never content with an unfulfilling job even when I made enough money. My success comes from never being content and always believing I can learn something new, do a little bit more, accomplish something more, and make a bigger impact. Running my own company Success Promotions, my dad taught me that referrals from satisfied clients were worth more than keeping them on longer.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't be an English major. Dress for the job you want, not the job you have - it impacts your attitude and how professional you feel even when working from home. The two most important connections are a mentor and a mentee - someone who drives you to be better and someone you carry along to keep you grounded and responsible.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Balance is key, especially working from home - stepping over dirty clothes and not letting household chores distract during work hours. Work ethic and integrity: never compromise by working with questionable industries like gambling or pornography, and always stay on the bleeding edge of technology to stay challenged rather than bored.
