Her Interview
Ten minutes with Shannon
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the values instilled by my mom, watching her work so hard, and my commitment to consistency. I show up every day the same, with the same attitude and drive. Consistency is my superpower. I plant seeds every day through consistent effort.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I received is that networking will get you further than any degree. Building relationships and networking will take you far. I have people I talked to months ago that still send people my way because they trusted me.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Do it anyway. Don't wait till you're ready. Ready is not a feeling, it's an action. I had imposter syndrome when I started but I did it anyway, and now I know how to handle anything. Messing up was a part of success. Just put one foot in front of the other and try.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is getting people to meet with me and listen because they have preconceived ideas about Spectrum being just cable people. But the opportunity is that people who are open-minded and willing to meet are the best, and agencies that meet with me are open to giving clients the best products.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Being truthful and giving before I ask. I want to be a giver and build trust, even if I can't help someone directly. My values come from my parents, especially my hardworking immigrant mother who took care of the family.
