Her Interview
Ten minutes with Shannon
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to an open-minded approach and a genuine passion for continuous learning. I embrace new tools, technologies, and perspectives with curiosity, viewing every project as an opportunity to grow and refine my craft. My willingness to evolve, combined with a deep love for what I do, drives me to stay engaged, adaptable, and committed to delivering meaningful work. My enthusiasm for design goes beyond the role itself, fueling creativity, resilience, and a consistent pursuit of excellence in an ever-changing digital landscape.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Focus on problem-solving, not just visuals. You can't create a good design unless it's able to solve a problem well.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Learn how to explain your work clearly, storytelling is as important as execution.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Teams are shipping faster than ever, but rushing can mean less user research, rushed usability testing, and more tech debt. Designers need to have the opportunity to deliver meaningful work quickly without sacrificing thoughtful solutions.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Professionally, I value curiosity, open-mindedness, adaptability, and resilience. These are qualities that are essential in the ever-evolving tech industry and ones I am proud to embody. In my personal life, I prioritize honesty, empathy, accountability, and reliability, along with finding joy in the little things, which often turn out to be the moments that matter most.
