Her Story
About Shannon
I've been in healthcare for 30 years, starting at an insurance company in customer service before realizing I liked the provider section better and moving to provider solutions. I then went to a hospital system where I worked for a very long time. For the past 15 years, I've been at the South Carolina Office of Rural Health as their Senior Director of Provider Solutions, which means any physician, clinic, hospital, or EMS agency in South Carolina is under my responsibility. I currently serve as board president for the National Association of Rural Health Clinics, which has about 5,800 rural health clinics across our country. In January 2026, I graduated as a nationally recognized EMT because I wanted to put my money where my mouth was - if we're going to support EMT agencies, then I needed to know what that meant, so that included all of the classroom and clinical days riding around in the back of an ambulance to get that feel for what they needed and how we could serve them better. I'm super lucky, love what I do, and will always probably work in rural now that I've been in the industry for so long. I fly all over the country teaching specific to rural health needs. I have a huge passion for supporting rural and supporting those that I can help make a difference.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Always strive to learn more!
02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I have a thing that's saying it literally on my computer that says stand for something, don't just exist, and make a positive difference. Those are three sentences that I kind of try to live by. One of the biggest things that I am proud of in all that I've done is the way that I'm able to help make connections for people and with people. I have a huge passion for supporting rural and supporting those that I can help make a difference.
