Her Story

About Shannon

Shannon Eaves is a VP of People with over 10 years of experience in human resources. Her career began after earning a bachelor's degree from Cal State Fullerton and pursuing marketing, which she found unfulfilling. After working with a career coach, she transitioned into HR, starting at a wealth advisory firm where she gained experience in acquisitions and observed empowering female leadership. She has since focused on the startup space, building HR programs from the ground up, acting as a business partner, solving complex problems, and bridging communication between data-driven leaders and the broader workforce. Eaves contributed to a successful exit at an AI company, which she found extremely rewarding. She emphasizes resourcefulness and creativity in environments with limited resources. She attributes her success to an intense work ethic, persistence, and the ability to learn from others. Eaves earned her PHR California certification and, more recently, her senior PHR certification. She also completed an HR Management certificate program at Cal State Fullerton.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Shannon

01What do you attribute your success to?

Honestly, I have just always had an insane work ethic. Since I was young, I've had a job. I figure it out. I don't have all the answers, but I am going to figure it out. And I've just been so persistent on that. You don't have to be the smartest person in the room, either, because I've worked with very brilliant people and you kind of just learn a little bit from everyone you work with.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't be so rigid on what your career plan is. Because it's very fluid, and what you think is your plan very rarely ends up coming to fruition. It looks very different. Be very open to opportunity, open to networking, and just very fluid with your career, and just taking it day by day, and what's the best next step for today.
