About Shannon
Shannon Eggerton serves as quality director in the construction industry, where she has built a career spanning 17 years. She manages multiple projects and leads teams through long workdays that begin at 6 a.m. and often extend until 6 p.m. Her responsibilities include conducting foreman's meetings, coordinating with trade partners, overseeing deliveries, inspections, and tests, and ensuring all work meets detailed specifications and drawings from initial construction through final completion. Eggerton started her path later in life after her children were grown, transitioning from gas and oil into data centers after friends in the industry took her under their wing and showed her the ropes. She does not hold a college degree but has earned numerous certifications, including OSHA 30, CPR, concrete certifications, construction service certification, and FPA 70E. She is currently working through the LEAD program. Eggerton attributes her success to supportive individuals who placed trust in her abilities on unfamiliar job sites, allowing her to carve out a path she never anticipated. She takes pride in stepping into distressed projects and guiding them back on track while building strong relationships grounded in trust, respect, and integrity.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to some really great individuals in my career that had faith in me and trust in me to bring me on a site that I had never been on in my life. They showed me the ropes and let me run with it, carving a career path for me that I never thought I would ever be in.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
For a woman in this career path, resiliency, tough skin, stay true to your heart and your path. Assert yourself, earn respect, and plow forward. Women should support women in this industry. Don't get discouraged.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Educate yourselves on what is available in the industry. Research, ask questions, come to site to do a walk. Consider internships, unions that pay for school and provide 401K. There are many roles beyond field work like estimating, accounting, project management, VDC.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is gaining respect as a woman in a male-dominated field. Directions from men are received differently than from women. Once respect is earned, it is huge, but every project starts from ground zero for women.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Building strong relationships, trust, respect, and integrity. These values apply to both work and personal life, creating transparency and strong trust with others.
