Her Story
About Shannon
I am a tax manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers with nearly 10 years of experience in tax. My main expertise is in deals, mergers and acquisitions, particularly for clients in the financial services sector. I handle engagement letters, review transaction documents like SPAs for tax implications, assess whether clients should buy or sell parts of companies, and work on tax structuring for integrations or asset disposals in tax-beneficial ways. Originally aspiring to be a prosecutor, I fell in love with a federal income tax class and pivoted. A notable achievement was successfully obtaining a private letter ruling from the IRS confirming a tax-advantaged transaction structure for a client. I attended Indiana State University, Valparaiso Law School, and Northwestern Law School.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to delegate. Great leaders delegate. You have to have cultivated the trust with the team that you work with to feel comfortable delegating. Sometimes you just need to delegate just to get people experience or to relieve certain pressure points during your to-do list.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't take everything personal. When it comes to business, you just can't. It will really drive you crazy if you do. Always be willing to put your best foot forward and learn, but don't take things personal. It's something that I learned from my family growing up and it has helped me on so many levels.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Adapting to a new way of working. The world we live in is not something that we were prepared for so we have to figure out how to navigate this new world. AI is a factor but not a bad thing.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value loyalty and trustworthiness in individuals. I value honesty. I also really value intellectual curiosity, which I think certain generations lack.
