Her Interview

Ten minutes with Shannon

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to resilience, perspective, and a deep appreciation for each day. After surviving a serious car accident in 2004 that left me with life-threatening injuries and took the life of my coworker, I gained a lasting understanding that nothing is guaranteed. That experience reshaped how I approach goals and opportunities—I act with urgency, take ownership of my ideas, and pursue what matters without delay. It also reinforced the importance of collaboration, as I believe success is not about competing against others but about sharing ideas and working together toward common goals through different paths.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Always use your voice. Keeping thoughts inside doesn’t create action. Believe in you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Use your voice. Share your ideas. Share your experience. Sharing is growing. It not only helps you but those around you. When you grow, your team grows.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges in my field right now include ongoing economic instability, such as government layoffs and shutdowns, which directly impact employment security and workforce planning. At the same time, relocating to and integrating into a busier urban environment presents additional challenges, particularly when it comes to building strong professional networks and managing longer, more demanding commutes. These conditions also create opportunities, however, to strengthen adaptability, expand professional connections in larger markets, and develop more flexible approaches to career growth and collaboration.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important values to me in both my work and personal life are family and close friends, integrity in my career choices, and quality of life. I prioritize aligning my professional path with my strengths and expertise so that my work is both meaningful and sustainable. I also value maintaining a strong connection to family and making decisions that support that balance. In addition, I place importance on quality of life, including the ability to experience a well-rounded lifestyle and environments that bring a sense of balance and fulfillment.
