Her Interview
Ten minutes with Shannon
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to resilience, determination, and the drive to create a better future. From an early age, I learned the importance of being self-motivated and taking initiative. Facing significant challenges, including being born with seven birth defects and overcoming obstacles that could have limited my opportunities, I developed the mindset to persevere and continue pushing forward. Growing up with limited support, I learned to rely on my own strength, discipline, and determination to achieve my goals. Those experiences shaped my commitment to breaking generational cycles, building a successful future, and becoming the first in my family to achieve financial independence and create lasting opportunities for future generations.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to never assume that the person you are speaking with knows less than you do. Every individual brings unique experiences, knowledge, and perspectives, so approaching others with respect and humility is essential. I have also learned the importance of staying focused, avoiding workplace drama, gossip, and hearsay, and maintaining professionalism in every situation. Most importantly, I believe in standing on my own merit, building trust through my actions, and never taking loyalty for granted. Success comes from consistently demonstrating integrity, accountability, and the value I bring to every opportunity.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is to approach every interaction with respect, humility, and an open mind. Never assume that the person you are speaking with knows less than you do, as every individual has valuable experiences and knowledge to share. I encourage women to stay away from workplace gossip and drama, remain focused on their goals, and maintain professionalism and positivity in all situations. Most importantly, build your reputation through your own merit, work ethic, and integrity rather than relying on office politics. Long-term success comes from the value you create and the character you demonstrate every day.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges and opportunities in my field right now center around advancing diversity, inclusion, and creating a more welcoming environment for professionals and clients from all backgrounds. As a woman and LGBTQ+ professional, my personal experiences have shaped my perspective and strengthened my commitment to authenticity, empathy, and understanding. Having faced challenges related to discrimination and acceptance throughout my career, I recognize the importance of fostering a culture where individuals feel respected and valued. These experiences have also created opportunities to connect with clients who appreciate working with someone who understands their journey and can provide a trusted, supportive experience. I believe the future of the industry lies in embracing diverse perspectives, leading with integrity, and building relationships based on respect, trust, and inclusion.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, resilience, authenticity, and treating others with respect. Throughout my career, I have built my reputation on being dependable, finding solutions to complex challenges, and delivering results in situations that require experience, attention to detail, and perseverance. With more than 25 years in the title and escrow industry, I take pride in handling complex and high-value transactions, including unique deals involving commercial properties and specialized assets, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and trust. Personally, I value perseverance, family, and the importance of creating opportunities that positively impact the people around me. These principles guide the way I approach every relationship, transaction, and challenge.
