Her Interview
Ten minutes with Shaqueria
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my community and the strong people around me, especially strong women who push me to excel. Having good people around you makes a difference, and continuing to strive for people that will always rise you up.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
A previous boss recommended reading Start With Why by Simon Sinek. I saw my old CEO apply concepts from books to his life, which helped me transform how I do things. Instead of following everyone else's steps or consuming all content, I read books and took methods that work for me. Giving back outside of just working is also rewarding.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never let anyone get in the way of your goal. If you want it, work to be the best version of yourself to produce it. If people are talking about you or asking when you're going to start, that's a sign you need to go after it. It's okay to fail - pick yourself back up and try again or try something new. Don't let roadblocks stop you from pushing towards your next big thing.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Time is the biggest challenge. Planning is huge because if something is forgotten it's detrimental to me, my family, and my community. As a mom, I have to pre-plan, communicate in advance about events and work opportunities, and make sure plans are set so I'm not putting others at a disadvantage.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Mentorship, creativity, integrity, empowerment, and service are most important to me.
