Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sharangeet
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my 20-year career in IT and cybersecurity, supported by my dual master’s degrees in Computer Science and Business. My experience, combined with my current role at JM Family in security compliance and audits, has strengthened my expertise and helped me grow professionally.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I received is to never be afraid to ask questions and always understand the why behind something. This has stayed with me in cybersecurity and GRC work, helping uncover gaps, clarify misunderstandings, and make better decisions rather than just checking boxes.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I advise young professionals to always stay curious and never stop learning because the IT and cybersecurity world changes so quickly. Focus not only on the technical side but also on business, communication, and collaboration. Do not be afraid to ask questions or admit when you do not know something, be patient, build a strong foundation, find good mentors, gain real-life experience rather than just collecting certifications, and never give up.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important values in my role are integrity, accountability, attention to detail, and collaboration. In GRC work, integrity ensures objective and accurate reviewing and reporting. Accountability is key due to deadlines and regulatory requirements. Collaboration is essential when working with technical teams, business owners, and auditors as partners. Continuous learning is also critical because cybersecurity is always evolving, especially with AI.
