Her career was inspired by personal experience with an autoimmune disease, which motivated her to gain her insurance license and dedicate herself to ensuring that no individual or family faces financial hardship due to unexpected medical expenses. Throughout her career, Shari has held pivotal roles at Aflac, including agent, manager, and market trainer, where she mentored teams, implemented strategic benefit solutions, and consulted on large-scale brokerage and nationwide voluntary-benefit implementations. In her current role at EPIC, she leads the West Coast Voluntary Benefits Practice, driving strategy, innovation, and growth. What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of personal experience, curiosity, and a genuine desire to help others. My journey in insurance began when I was diagnosed with lupus, which led me to obtain my insurance license—not initially to sell, but to understand the benefits and protections available to me. Through this process, I discovered Aflac and realized how much impact insurance can have for people in need. Since then, I have committed myself to growing in the industry, learning from my broker partners, and continuously improving my skills. I am also currently pursuing my MBA to further enhance my knowledge and ability to serve clients effectively, driven by a passion for helping people navigate their insurance needs with confidence.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to never dim my light. It’s a reminder to embrace my strengths, share my ideas confidently, and approach every opportunity with authenticity and courage.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be a sponge in every room you enter" and "never dim your light." Learn from others and bring your authentic self to your work.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are passion, balance, and dedication. I bring energy and commitment to everything I do, whether it’s helping clients, advancing my career, or nurturing my family. Outside of work, I am an avid dancer, enjoy skating, hiking, and traveling, and treasure spending quality time with my children as a single mom. These experiences keep me grounded, inspired, and motivated to give my best in all areas of life.
