Her Interview

Ten minutes with Sharina

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being dedicated, a hard worker, a team player, and trustworthy. If I don't know something, I research and find the answer. Networking has been key because every healthcare system faces similar challenges, and being an extrovert who loves talking to people, listening, observing, and doing research has helped me be innovative and forward-thinking.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received was to always build a strong team around me. Entrusting my teams has been instrumental to my growth and my team's growth. By providing feedback, education, and growth opportunities, the more they grow, the more I'm able to grow because I didn't get here alone.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Know who you are. Love who you are. Don't let anybody tell you what you cannot do. Always be innovative in how you think and professional when you present yourself, because that allows you to gain the respect that you deserve.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges is payer behavior - challenging insurance companies to pay for needed services, fighting denials, and obtaining proper authorizations. In Georgia, many patients lost Medicaid and marketplace coverage as of January 1st, so ensuring they continue to get treatment without insurance is a major priority.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Trust, communication, accountability, being strategic and thoughtful about next moves, planning, and integrity. Integrity encompasses the trust I mentioned.
