Her Story
About Sharon
Sharon Klein founded her mental health faith-based counseling practice in Massapequa, New York, which she incorporated in 2012 after practicing earlier. She began with a bachelor's degree in psychology followed by a social work degree and recently completed her doctorate in clinical Christian counseling from Jacksonville Theological Seminary, where she became ordained. Klein is also EMDR certified and serves as a school social worker in a local high school while maintaining a clinical caseload of individuals, couples, and families. Her practice emphasizes Christian counseling with a clinical evidence-based focus and offers modalities including EMDR for trauma, emotionally focused couples therapy, drama therapy, and specialized support for children as well as parents in foster care and adoption. Klein values helping people recognize they are created in the image of God and loved as they are, with no one too far gone, and she draws on the advice to bring what one has, like the five loaves and two fish, while mentoring others to be prayerful, willing to learn, and open to questions.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sharon
01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I have two dear friends... one of my dear friends said to me on the call, she's like, all you have to do is bring your 5 loaves and your 2 fish. That's all you need to do... just start with what you have and what you know, and let God handle the rest.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Just be prayerful about it, and be willing to learn. Like, hook yourself up with other people that are doing what you want to do, people that are willing to mentor you, you know, ask a lot of questions. Don't be afraid to ask questions. And always have a heart to learn.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Biggest challenges include helping people recognize how special and loved by God they are and letting that in... the need is very great and sometimes the need is greater than the resources available... we're always trying to be that resource for people.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important thing is for people to understand that they're created in the image of God, and they are loved just the way that they are. And no one is too far gone... just because your faith is important to you doesn't necessarily mean that your life is going to be perfect... we're not gonna judge you for that. We're just gonna come alongside you and support you and love you.
