Her Story
About Sharon
I have been working in global mobility for 22 years and in higher education for 2 years. These two areas overlap because global mobility is part of cultural competency and global lawyering, both of which I teach at the law school. My main area of expertise is cultural competency for lawyers. I hold a law degree and am board certified in labor and employment law. I am also certified in intercultural management and organizational management. My most notable professional achievement to date is publishing my book, Access to Asia, which I am very proud of.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Sharon
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being organized, focused, and resilient. You've got to have perseverance and be resilient to the challenges that come your way. Without those qualities, it's hard to keep moving forward and achieve your goals.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was that if you don't fail, then you're not trying hard enough. Everyone fails at something at some point. It's a reminder that failure is part of growth and pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I call it lift as you climb. As you succeed, help other women do the same. Help the younger generation of women leaders move up the ladder behind you. It's important that we support each other and create opportunities for those coming after us.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I would say some of the biggest opportunities are innovative and creative ways to publish thought leadership. There are also tremendous opportunities for lifelong learning. These are exciting times for those who want to continue growing and sharing their expertise in new ways.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are faith, family, and positive thinking. These three things guide everything I do, both professionally and personally, and help me stay grounded and focused on what truly matters.
