About Shatia

Shatia Wickliffe serves as the Disabilities and Mental Health Manager for Greater Louisville Head Start, where she supervises a team of three and ensures that students receive essential mental health services through observations and referrals to partner organizations. She has been in the field of education for 15 years, starting her professional journey in 2012 with Jefferson County Public Schools as a preschool teacher in the Early Childhood Department. Prior to that, she worked at Smart Cookie Educator Center and the Early Learning Center at the University of Louisville. Wickliffe holds a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Louisville, an IECE certificate for birth to age five, a master's degree in Teacher Leadership and Educational Technology from Georgetown College, a master's in School Improvement and Gifted Education from Campbellsville University, and an Educational Specialist degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Northern Kentucky University. She is a member of Sigma Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated and the Kentucky Education Association, and she volunteers with her sorority and Family and Children's Place. Her professional path was influenced by a family background of educators and a desire to work with children after initially pursuing nursing.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

First start out and map out what you would like to do. Then find a mentor to help with questions and keep motivated. The field is tough but with mentor and focus on goals the toughness doesn't matter.
