Her Story

About Shaunesy

I've been working in media design for 3 to 4 years, and I just graduated with my master's degree at the beginning of this month. This is my first career - I'm just building it out, and I'm going to get my PhD starting in June. I also work with people with developmental disabilities, managing a group home. I love my residents, so it's where my heart is. My work with people with developmental disabilities and managing that has transcended into my creative side, which I would say is my most notable professional achievement. I look at clients as my basic need, and I try to use my creativity to enhance what they need. What I love most about media design is that it's fascinating to see how a simple idea can transcend into a whole brand - it really makes my interests go up and see how everything just starts from a simple idea and turns into this whole thing.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Shaunesy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say a lot of it is my family. My family gives me my love and support, and that makes me able to go and push what I want to do creatively.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be sure to yourself, and things will branch out from there.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Keep climbing that ladder. Keep pushing yourself to achieve what you want, and following your heart.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think it's breaking the door and finding where I can be. I'm coming into this fresh market that is attuned to more the younger generation, and showing that my ideas are still relevant has been a little bit of a challenge.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think being honest and upfront really makes everything go together.
