About Shauntee
Shauntee Daniels is a heritage preservation leader, cultural advocate, and nonprofit executive who serves as Executive Director and CEO of the Baltimore National Heritage Area in Baltimore, Maryland. Since assuming the leadership role in 2019, she has guided the organization’s mission to preserve, promote, and enhance Baltimore’s rich historical, cultural, and natural resources. Her work focuses on increasing public awareness of the city’s diverse heritage while supporting partnerships, educational initiatives, grants, and community-based programs that celebrate Baltimore’s unique identity and legacy.
Daniels’ professional journey reflects a diverse and unconventional career path. Raised in Ogden, Utah, she attended parochial schools before moving to California, where she studied Retail and Fashion Merchandising at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising and later pursued studies in Arts and Humanities at Peralta College. Her early career included positions in health insurance administration, marketing, and sales, followed by a brief period in federal government service. After relocating to Maryland in 1999, she entered the tourism and heritage sector, joining the Baltimore National Heritage Area in 2008 as Education and Outreach Administrator. Through years of dedicated service, she advanced into executive leadership, bringing extensive experience in community engagement, cultural interpretation, and organizational development.
Throughout her career, Daniels has remained committed to preserving and interpreting Baltimore’s cultural, industrial, and community history for future generations. She is recognized for her advocacy of heritage preservation, educational outreach, and grant funding initiatives that support historical and cultural organizations. Her leadership philosophy emphasizes lifelong learning, resilience, and the importance of visible advocacy in championing preservation efforts. In addition to her professional work, she is active within her faith community and civic networks, reflecting her longstanding dedication to community service, cultural stewardship, and building meaningful connections across diverse audiences.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work, dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to continuous learning. Throughout my career, I have remained focused on pushing forward, embracing challenges, and never giving up, even in difficult situations. I believe that ongoing education and professional growth are essential for staying adaptable and effective, while my desire to make a meaningful difference motivates me to consistently strive for excellence and create a positive impact through my work.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to build a strong foundation through continuous learning and hard work, while identifying what truly drives and inspires me. Understanding my passion provides the focus and motivation needed to achieve my goals and pursue a fulfilling career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to remain curious and committed to lifelong learning, as knowledge and growth go hand in hand. Be open, honest, and willing to learn from others, and never hesitate to share your ideas and perspectives—your voice matters and can make a meaningful impact.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities in my field is educating and helping individuals and businesses better understand Maryland’s rich heritage, culture, and history. By increasing awareness of the state's unique stories, traditions, and contributions, we can foster greater appreciation for its value and create meaningful connections that support cultural preservation, tourism, and community engagement.
