About Shavonne
My journey in experiential marketing began over 20 years ago when I had my first internship for the city of Detroit as a production intern. The executive assistant suggested I sign up for a modeling agency, and that's how I got introduced to experiential marketing, though at the time I didn't even know what it was called. I've been working behind the scenes in media since high school, starting as a youth producer with Scoop and being selected for a journalism program at Madonna University in Michigan. I worked full-time in media for the Word Network for over 3 years, but by 2017, I realized I wanted to switch gears because I felt there was no longevity in media. I decided to focus more on events and do media on the side instead. As a brand ambassador and event manager, I'm responsible for setting up events, greeting guests, managing giveaways and promotions, and sometimes overseeing teams of brand ambassadors. In my recent role with Anthropologist Activation, I managed over 20 brand ambassadors and a VIP section with over 60 guests, including autograph signings. I've worked with major brands like Kia, Coca-Cola, Marie Claire, and JBL headphones. After the pandemic, I moved from Detroit to Atlanta in 2023 because I needed to be in a market with more consistent work opportunities. I really love it here because Atlanta always has something going on practically every day. Currently, I also work as a media correspondent for Swag Her Magazine and am a member of Media Girls Network, doing various media projects on the side.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Make sure that you know what your goals are, and focus on those goals. If you can't figure out what your goals are, make sure to get a mentor. I've had mentors in the past, but within the last year I really have a mentor that's like, hey, we need to figure out what your goals are, what's your next step, and I think a mentor is very pivotal, whatever stage you are. A young lady should also surround herself with like-minded young ladies or women that have the same goals so they can all feed off of each other, because that's very important. You have someone that can encourage you, because sometimes we can be alone in our own thoughts. Sometimes young ladies get discouraged, they may not really know what their directions are, or they may need some guidance. Also find organizations that they should join, whether if they are in journalism, or they want to become a doctor. There are so many different organizations, depending on what it is that you want to do, that will help you make that next step, or help you get the tools and resources or training to make that next step in your career or your life.
