Ten minutes with Shawna

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my mother—her strong work ethic shaped me into the woman I am today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received from my mentor was: never say you don’t know—there’s always a way to find the answer.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women stepping into the administration field is this: give your all—100 percent—in everything you do. But remember, never take things personally. In this profession, you are the heartbeat of the organization—the one who keeps things moving when others slow down. Resilience will be one of your greatest strengths. There will be moments when you’re asked to take on tasks you’ve never done before, but that’s where growth happens. Learn, adapt, and shine. Your grace under pressure and commitment to excellence will set you apart.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges in my field are have to work across multiple time zones and you sometimes take on task that you have never done before and must learn. While the greatest opportunity lies in the chance to learn and grow from these diverse perspectives.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me, shaped by 20 years in the military, are integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all that I do.
