About Shawna
Shawna Smith brings over 25 years of experience in the government military field. She began her career at Maytag but transitioned to the Military Entrance Processing Station after concerns about a potential company buyout, starting at the lowest grade and advancing to one of the highest positions. In her current role, she supervises the department responsible for testing individuals joining the military and oversees career exploration initiatives that take her team into high schools to work with juniors and seniors using ASVAB assessments, personality tests, and tools to explore colleges and wages. Shawna holds a bachelor's degree, a master's in business leadership, and is finalizing her master's in education. She was inducted into the NSLS and attributes her success to her stubbornness and refusal to give up. As a single mother inspired by a sergeant colleague, she pursued higher education while developing a passion for inclusive learning, motivated by her oldest son's autism. Her professional goals include becoming a college professor to continue helping students.

My stubbornness, never giving up.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice is never limit yourself. You're stronger than you think you are, you can get further than you think you can. Do not put the limits that everybody else may have put on you.
