Her Story
About Shawna
I originally aimed for humanitarianism but landed in insurance out of necessity. I've been in the insurance field for about a decade, with almost 7 years at my current company and 3 years before that. While I don't claim to be particularly proud of my work in insurance itself, I have managed to leverage the company I'm with now to continue humanitarian initiatives, primarily personally. I've also embedded myself into the company's inclusion culture and diversity, equity, inclusion strategy through their business resource groups. What I love most about my work is connection with other people. The folks at this company are so warm, inviting, helpful, genuinely good, open human beings. I love those relationships and people's passion and compassion for one another. The company compensates their employees well and there's a lot of safety nets that make people really feel safe and cared for. My vision for the future is to find myself founding my own nonprofit, my own 501c3, to continue to give back and leverage the connections and resources that I have to bring those to underprivileged areas, pulling that same thread of providing access to opportunity for others.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Connection is the most important value to me. I believe the world is only relationships, whether we're talking about economy, society, or anything else, we're talking about relationships and human beings. I'm very focused on spiritual development and the pursuit of enlightenment and unity consciousness. I believe everyone is valuable, every single person and their experience, whatever they've been through, everyone has something to offer and to bring. We're all important pieces of this massive picture that we can't even fathom in one shot. Enabling everyone to be their best and to do their best is what's best for everyone overall. I also value providing access to opportunity for others, because people know what they need for themselves. When you avail access to opportunities to people, they will inherently thrive because they will seek out the opportunities that best suit them.
