Shawntel Reece

Shawntel Zenobia Reece is a passionate community advocate, public servant, and civic leader with over two decades of experience in public service and community engagement. Currently serving as both an Employment Training Counselor with the County of Sonoma and the Civic Community Liaison at Greater Powerhouse Church of God in Christ, Shawntel has dedicated her career to empowering underserved communities, especially in Santa Rosa's Southwest area. Her work bridges the gap between civic leadership and grassroots advocacy, ensuring that historically marginalized voices are heard and included in city and county decision-making. She is also the Vice President of Bridge to the Future Rites of Passage, a transformative youth mentorship program focused on cultural awareness, financial literacy, public speaking, and personal development for teens ages 14 to 18.
A graduate of California State University, Sacramento, with a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Shawntel brings a deep understanding of human development, systems of support, and social equity. She previously served over ten years as a Juvenile Correctional Counselor, where she worked directly with justice-involved youth, building a foundation for her continued focus on social services, restorative practices, and anti-racist policy work. As a member of the Office of Equity Steering Committee for the County of Sonoma, Shawntel plays a strategic role in shaping and implementing the county’s Racial Equity Action Plan.
Shawntel is also a vocal advocate for the empowerment of Black women, using her platform to challenge systems of silence and oppression. Her leadership, both inside and outside of government, is grounded in justice, equity, and community healing. Her voice continues to resonate as she champions representation, education, and collective action across her many spheres of influence.
