Her Interview
Ten minutes with Shayna
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my mom. My mom passed when I was young, but in those 14 years I saw so much of her work and dedication. Without realizing it I was mimicking a lot of the things that she was doing. She was always so driven.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be afraid of failure. It's inevitable and it's also teaching moments. The things that you are not good at you can take those and actually learn from them. Make the mistakes you know you need to and pivot. Stop start continue. That's life.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges include being in a male-dominated industry, being heard and respected as a woman of color, and equal pay. Opportunities include community among women stepping forward and making strides and differences.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity especially in this state of the world where it lacks so much is still a guiding principal. Having great faith base. If you don't believe in anything you will fall for everything. Giving back to the community that raised me.
