Her Story
About Shazia
Shazia Shamaun serves as Women's Ministry Leader at Christ Orbana Church in New York, NY. In this role since 2023, she provides counseling, leads prayer meetings, and engages in teaching and preaching to empower women and affirm their worth amid societal stigmas. With over a decade of experience in non-profit social services, ministry, and community engagement, Shazia pursues her passion for serving humanity by combining faith-based work with advocacy and support for individuals and families. She earned a Bachelor's in Science and a Master's in Theology from institutions in Pakistan in 1998 and 2001, respectively, and recently obtained a certificate in micro nonprofit management in addition to her ESL and all-state certifications. Shazia maintains affiliations with VOYA Women and Youth Advancement, where she worked as an empowerment strategist, as well as the Center for Families and Saki. She attributes her professional success to faith and resilience, noting that belief in God and oneself fosters the ability to overcome hardships with patience and kindness. Her values center on dignity and compassion, guiding her efforts to create lasting positive change in vulnerable communities through non-profit work, education, and ministry.

01What do you attribute your success to?
Faith and resilience. Because if you have faith in God, in yourself, then you become resilient. Like you no one can stop you. Whatever hardships come into your life, you can overcome through it.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Believe in God. You have a purpose in your life, you are valued, you are worthy, and you can do it. No one can stop you.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell them that they are beautiful, they are gifted, they are worthy, they can do whatever they wanted to do, but they have a purpose. They need to be respectful for themselves and to others.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges were like I was a bit impatient before, but I learned that with patience and kindness, you can do more, you can go more you can cover more paths, you can reach out to more people.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Dignity, compassion are the most important things.
