Her Story

About Shea

Shea Miech, BSN, RN, NE-BC, is a Patient Experience Leader and registered nurse with more than two decades of healthcare experience. At Baylor Scott & White Health, she focuses on connecting people, culture, communication, and performance to create more meaningful healthcare experiences. Since beginning her nursing career in 2004, Miech has worked across medical-surgical nursing, Trauma ICU, Cardiac ICU, procedural areas, and hospital operations. She also served as a hospital house supervisor during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing leadership during one of the most challenging periods in modern healthcare. These varied experiences have given her a broad understanding of the perspectives of patients, families, bedside clinicians, physicians, and organizational leaders.

In her patient experience leadership role, Miech brings clinical knowledge and operational experience together with a strong focus on communication, relationship-centered care, education, and leadership development. She is passionate about helping healthcare organizations move beyond treating patient experience as simply a score and instead recognize it as a reflection of how effectively people communicate, collaborate, and care for one another. Her accomplishments include receiving a Nursing DAISY Award and helping seven hospitals achieve patient experience scores above the top national quartile. She is also participating as Faculty in Training in the 2026 cohort of the Academy of Communication in Healthcare, further developing her expertise in healthcare communication.

Miech holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Western Governors University and earned her LVN and RN through Washington State’s Running Start program. She is a Nurse Executive–Board Certified (NE-BC) professional and is affiliated with the Academy of Communication in Healthcare, Texas Nurses Association, and Texas Organization of Nurse Leaders. She attributes her success to the mentors, colleagues, and advocates who have encouraged her growth, as well as her willingness to remain curious and ask questions. Her leadership philosophy is grounded in authenticity, empathy, curiosity, love, and understanding, with a particular emphasis on creating environments where people feel genuinely heard and valued. Through her professional work and involvement in Baylor Scott & White’s Faith in Action program, she continues to advocate for compassionate, human-centered healthcare and stronger connections between people.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Shea

01What do you attribute your success to?

I've had other women and men who have been cheerleaders for me and have really held up opportunities and reflecting back what they had seen in me. Surrounding myself with people who make me better. Being brave enough to ask why.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Being you, bringing your gifts. Thinking about planning your days of what are the 3 things you're gonna accomplish. Give yourself something that's gonna be an easy win, something you have to get done, and a challenge. Start your days with intentions, and be authentically you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be open to possibilities. Put your best foot forward because you're not gonna know unless you try. We are our own biggest cheerleaders and defeaters, so if we don't believe in ourselves, it's really hard for others.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Politics getting put into things that are really more personal. Being able to still be mindful of core values, recognizing people are human and connect with people as humans. Meeting people where they're at without bulldozing.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Love, curiosity, really being empathetic, trying to be understanding and listen.
